Instagram is now available on Apple TV, bringing Reels, longer videos and live shows to Apple's streaming device for the first time. The app lets users watch content from their favourite creators, discover videos and resume watching across devices, and it is described by Instagram as a way to watch together with friends and family on the television.

What is on the TV app

The Apple TV app focuses on Reels organised into channels based on viewers' interests, with videos playing automatically, alongside the longer creator content, episodic series and live broadcasts that Meta outlined in June. The app appears to have launched on 23 October, with Apple's TV-specific release metadata dating version 66.0 to that day, while an archived App Store listing from 19 October still showed compatibility with only the iPhone and iPad. It requires tvOS 26.0 or later and is available now on the Apple TV App Store.

A slow move to the living room

The launch follows a gradual television rollout. Instagram first began testing its TV app on Amazon Fire TV devices in the United States in December 2025, before expanding to Google TV in February 2026 and Samsung smart TVs in June. It also follows Instagram's dedicated iPad app, which arrived in September 2025 after years of requests for an interface designed for Apple's tablets. The television move puts short-form video, long a phone-first format, onto the biggest screen in the house, and it will test whether Reels viewing works as a shared, lean-back experience rather than a solo scroll.
