Security researchers at Kaspersky have warned shoppers to beware of fake websites claiming to offer discounts on Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, which launched on 23 October 2026. The warning follows the identification of multiple imitation sites trading on excitement around the new device.

How the fake sites operate

The fake websites imitate Apple's style and promote discounts of up to 25 percent, alongside fraudulent preorder deals. They use urgency, limited-time offers and availability checks to pressure visitors into acting quickly. The aim, according to Kaspersky, is to harvest personal information, including email addresses and WhatsApp numbers, from people hoping to secure a deal.

How to stay safe

Shoppers should verify website addresses carefully and buy only from official or trusted retailers. Unofficial deals that promise a large discount on a newly launched device should be treated with suspicion, particularly when a site creates artificial urgency or asks for personal details before any purchase. No scam site address is named here, and no fake offer should be treated as genuine. Checking the address bar, sticking to known retailers and pausing before sharing contact details can reduce the risk of falling for a copycat site. A newly launched phone is a particular target for this kind of scam because demand is high, official stock may be limited, and shoppers may be searching for any available deal. That combination makes an eye-catching discount harder to resist, even when the site behind it is not genuine. If a deal appears only on an unfamiliar site, or if the site pressures a visitor to act immediately, those are reasons to stop and verify through an official channel instead of completing any form.
