Iran’s Araghchi Calls Gulf Ministers on De-escalation

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by telephone to his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar on Thursday, 5 November, as fears of renewed US military strikes against Iran raised concern across the Gulf.
The calls, confirmed by the Iranian foreign ministry and by the governments concerned, focused on diplomatic efforts to prevent another escalation and on keeping shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
Three calls in one day
Araghchi spoke separately to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and to Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, about what Tehran described as the "latest progress" in diplomatic efforts to establish stability in the region.
Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, said on X that he had discussed with Araghchi efforts to resume navigation through the Strait of Hormuz "without obstacles", with both sides stressing maritime safety, international trade and energy flows.
Qatar said Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Doha's support for initiatives to secure freedom of maritime navigation and to reach a comprehensive agreement delivering lasting peace. Qatar has been mediating between Washington and Tehran.
No decision on strikes reported
The diplomatic contacts come amid growing uncertainty over possible renewed American military operations against Iran. US media accounts cited in regional reporting say American commanders have been preparing options, but no confirmed decision to launch a new large-scale attack has been announced.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also spoke to Araghchi by telephone on Thursday about the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, Turkish diplomatic sources told Anadolu Agency.
For now, the calls show regional governments still pursuing dialogue. They do not establish that a new US attack has been ordered or that a wider war has begun.
