Iran threatens legal action against Sinokor tankers

Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) said on Tuesday 27 October 2026 that all vessels belonging to South Korean company Sinokor will face legal action from 1 November, Reuters reported, in a further tightening of Tehran's control over passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
What the authority said
The authority, set up by Tehran to manage passage requests in the strait, said on X that Sinokor vessels had committed the highest number of crossing violations over the past three months, and that appropriate actions had already been taken against at least seven of them. Sinokor vessels were previously included on an August list of 45 tankers Iran said had broken its Hormuz crossing rules. Sinokor did not immediately comment, and the exact form of the legal action — whether a fine, detention or confiscation — was not specified in the Reuters report.
The wider Hormuz picture
Bloomberg, via Insurance Journal, added that Sinokor is the world's largest supertanker owner, that its ships carried nearly 40% of crude out of Hormuz last month, and that the authority's list has grown to 122 vessels. Those Bloomberg-reported figures are attributed to Bloomberg, not confirmed in the Reuters copy. October has been the most intense month for attacks on commercial shipping in Hormuz waters since 2017, according to tracking cited in recent coverage, which is part of why any new restriction on tanker passage is being watched closely by energy markets.
