Pakistan's largest Tourism, Sports and Family Festival has opened in Islamabad, showcasing the country's cultural diversity, traditional cuisine, handicrafts and tourism potential.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated the festival at the Islamabad Sports Complex on Friday, accompanied by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana. The festival runs until Sunday 8 November, featuring musical evenings, concerts, flying lanterns, fireworks and a range of sports competitions.

This is the second edition of the festival, which is being held from 6 to 8 November at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad. Organisers are hoping that around 150,000 people will visit over the three days. The dates were announced on 25 October by Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Tourism, at a ceremony at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where the chamber and the PTDC signed an agreement to organise and promote the festival together.

The programme is designed to keep every age group busy from morning to evening. Adventure seekers can watch paragliding demonstrations and try rock climbing, while tent pegging — one of Pakistan's oldest equestrian sports — brings riders at full gallop to spear targets from the saddle. Hot air balloon rides, a car show and a food street are also part of the festival.

The first edition, held on 31 January and 1 February this year at the Jinnah Sports Complex and F-9 Park, drew thousands of families and diplomats.

Speaking at the opening, Ahsan Iqbal said tourism and sports were among the key pillars of Pakistan's vision of a one trillion dollar economy by 2035. The festival aims to present the country's culture and tourism potential to families and visitors from across Pakistan and abroad.
