Liverpool v Arsenal: Anfield test for title race

Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday 1 November, kick-off 16:30 GMT, in Premier League matchday 9, in the weekend's biggest test of both clubs' title credentials. Arsenal arrive second on 21 points, level with leaders Manchester City and behind them only on goal difference, while Liverpool are fourth on 15, six points back. Win on Sunday and Liverpool cut that gap to three points; lose, and they are nine behind.
Arsenal have won seven of eight Premier League matches, including three on the spin since a miserable visit to Brighton, most recently swatting aside Everton last weekend. Liverpool are building momentum under Andoni Iraola, with five consecutive wins, the latest on penalties against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Liverpool have kept four clean sheets in their last six league games.
Anfield's long grip on Arsenal
Liverpool are unbeaten in 16 home matches against Arsenal, winning eight of them, with the Gunners' most recent victory on Merseyside coming all the way back in 2012. The market makes Arsenal the more likely winners, at 41% against 27% for a draw and 32% for Liverpool, but Anfield history points the other way, and Arsenal's injury list does not help: Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are out, and Max Dowman's suspension stands after Arsenal's appeal failed.
Liverpool's doubts include Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong, but striker Alexander Isak has already scored six goals in just seven Premier League appearances, and Florian Wirtz has one goal and two assists in his past four starts. Arsenal's defence has conceded just five goals in eight games, the meanest in the league, so Sunday is a meeting of a side that does not concede much and a home side that does not lose this fixture much. The match is live on Sky Sports in the UK.
