Midlothian Duty Team social worker post closes 22 Nov

Midlothian Council is seeking a qualified social worker to join its Duty Team in Children's Services at Eskdaill Court, 7 Eskdaill Court, Dalkeith. The post, reference MID07801, is fixed term for one year as maternity cover, full time at 36 hours per week. The salary is £44,989.00 to £49,009.00, with the minimum actual salary £44,989.60 per annum on the council's first-point appointment policy.
What the role involves
As the “front door” to statutory Children's Services, the Duty Team is shifting from a primarily child protection investigatory response towards a strengths-based, relational way of working that prioritises “how we can help” from the very first contact. The postholder will undertake initial assessments, provide advice, support and short-term interventions, working closely with police, health, education and third-sector colleagues.
Applicants need a degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker; a Diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration is an acceptable alternative. A full valid driving licence is required, along with good communication and interpersonal skills and accurate case recording. The post is regulated work with protected adults and children, so PVG Scheme membership is required before starting, at the applicant's cost.
How to apply
The closing date is Sunday 22 November 2026, with interviews in the week beginning Monday 30 November 2026. Applications must be made through the official MyJobScotland listing; the council does not accept CVs by email or post.
