Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to join its Community Mental Health Services in North Shropshire. The permanent, part-time post is based at the North Shropshire Community Mental Health Service in Oswestry and pays £39,959 to £48,117 a year. Applications close on 16 November 2026.

The vacancy was posted on NHS Jobs on 2 November 2026, reference 301-LG-26-8220114-A, and applications are made through NHS Jobs. The trust warns it may close the vacancy early if it receives a high volume of applications, so candidates are advised not to wait until the deadline.

The role

The successful candidate will join a newly developing, multi-disciplinary team delivering an enhanced service for older adults experiencing functional mental illness, working with service users, carers and partner agencies to promote recovery, independence and quality of life.

Day-to-day duties include specialist assessment and care planning, triaging and assessing referrals, evaluating treatment plans, co-ordinating the work of the team and managing a defined caseload. The post holder will also take part in setting quality standards and auditing practice in line with current clinical guidance, and will complete robust risk assessments and risk management plans.

Who can apply

Applicants must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse on the NMC Register, with post-registration experience, evidence of formal courses or training at diploma or degree level, and a Registered Mentor qualification. Experience of working with adults with functional mental illness, of working in a community setting and making decisions autonomously, and of working with people who have difficulty engaging with services is essential.

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act is required, as is knowledge of the physical health needs of older people receiving community mental health care. A qualification in psychological interventions such as CBT, DBT or EMDR is desirable, as is qualification as a non-medical prescriber or extensive social work experience. The post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Pay, hours and deadline

The post is permanent and part-time, paid on Agenda for Change Band 6 at £39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata. It is based at North Shropshire CMHS, 71 Salop Road, Oswestry, SY11 2NQ, and the team also covers Market Drayton and the wider north Shropshire area.

The closing date is 16 November 2026. The trust notes that any use of artificial intelligence in completing the application form will be monitored, and applicants who have used AI must say so in their application. The trust employs around 9,000 staff providing physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
