North Wales Police has opened applications for people who want to become police constables, with successful applicants joining the force in 2027. The force is recruiting across its six counties — Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham — and says the role is open to applicants with and without a degree.

The starting salary is £32,256 a year, rising each year to £52,014 by year seven, according to the force's official recruitment advert. The package also includes a pension, subsidised gym access, health and wellbeing support and retail discounts through the Blue Light scheme.

There are four ways in. The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship lets recruits earn a degree while being paid to work, with a three-year probation. Graduates can join through the Degree Holder Entry Programme, which carries a two-year probation, while holders of a professional policing degree can enter through a dedicated route with the same two-year probation. Applicants with no degree and no wish to study for one can join through the Police Constable Entry Programme, also with a two-year probation.

Training begins with a six-month programme based in St Asaph, followed by supported on-the-job training in a tutor unit, where new constables are paired with a tutor buddy. The force says recruits can later move into a wide range of specialist units once probation is complete.

Candidates who want to learn more before applying can join a pre-application discovery session on Thursday 12 November from 6pm to 7pm, where they can ask the training and recruitment teams about the role and the application process. Assessment centres for eligible candidates will run on 3–9 December and 10–16 December 2026, and on 7–14 January 2027.

Applicants need to demonstrate starter-level Welsh language speaking skills during the pre-employment stage, but the force stresses that non-Welsh speakers should not be put off: full support to improve Welsh is provided throughout training. Positive action support is available before applying for people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and people with a neurodivergent condition, and people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. North Wales Police is recognised as a Disability Confident Leader employer.

Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman describes the role as more than a job, calling it a vocation and a chance to make a real difference in the community. The force re-promoted the opening on 5 November, saying it was its chance for applicants to help keep North Wales one of the safest places to live, work and visit in the UK.

The official advert does not state a closing date, so anyone interested should apply promptly through the force's recruitment portal and read the eligibility and vetting guidance on the North Wales Police website before starting an application. Applications are for the 2027 intakes, and places are filled through the assessment centres listed above.
