Pakistan Petrol Cut Rs9.41 as Fuel Falls Fourth Day

Petrol in Pakistan will cost Rs352.59 a litre from Friday, 6 November, after the federal government cut the price by Rs9.41 per litre, the fourth daily reduction in a row.

High-speed diesel falls by Rs5.56 per litre to Rs382.25, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Thursday and published by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Fourth cut in four days

The latest reduction extends a run of daily cuts that began on Monday. Petrol has fallen by Rs25.32 a litre since then, from Rs377.91 to Rs352.59, while diesel is down Rs20.71 over the same period.

The cut before that, announced on Wednesday and effective on Thursday, lowered petrol by Rs7.06 to Rs362.00 and diesel by Rs3.71 to Rs387.81. The new cut, announced on Thursday, takes petrol below Rs355 for the first time in the current sequence. Both figures are correct: Rs7.06 was the 5 November cut, and Rs9.41 is the 6 November cut.

Daily pricing, one-day rates

Pakistan moved to a daily petroleum pricing mechanism on 17 July, replacing the previous weekly review so changes in international oil prices reach consumers more quickly. OGRA now publishes revised prices each day, and the new rates are fixed for one day only.

The prices quoted are ex-depot rates, the official basis for petroleum pricing before distribution and retail costs. Taxes and duties remain heavy: Pakistan Today reported Rs114 a litre on petrol and Rs100 on diesel.

The government has linked the recent falls to lower international oil prices and the absorption of petroleum levies by refineries. Whether the daily cuts continue depends on the next OGRA publication, expected each morning under the new system.
