Eleven people were killed and 33 injured on Thursday evening, 5 November, when a passenger bus collided with a truck on Depalpur Road near Pakpattan in Punjab, police and rescue officials said.

The bus was travelling from Multan to Kasur when it hit a truck coming in the opposite direction near the 17 SP Stop. The truck was a 10-wheeler trailer loaded with potatoes, according to the Express Tribune.

Rescue teams at the scene

Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and moved the dead and injured to DHQ Hospital Pakpattan. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Umair Iqbal confirmed the casualty figures, which were reported at the time and may rise as the injured are treated.

Among the dead were Patrolling Police officer Ali Hasnain and Para Force member Zahid Imam, the Express Tribune reported. The figures of 11 dead and 33 injured are those given by Rescue 1122 and were also reported by the Associated Press and Dunya News. One aggregator put the death toll at 10; this report uses 11, in line with AP, the Express Tribune and Rescue 1122.

No cause established

No cause for the crash has been established, and none is stated in this report. The crash is the second in Punjab in just over two weeks to kill 10 or more people, the Express Tribune noted.

The scale of road deaths in the province remains stark. Rescue 1122 recorded 44,797 road accidents in Punjab in October, in which 464 people were killed, according to the same report.
