Pakistan, Qatar deepen trade ties at Doha task force talks

Doha meeting reviews progress since April
Pakistan and Qatar have reviewed progress on trade and investment cooperation at the second meeting of their Joint Task Force on Trade and Investment in Doha. The meeting was held on 24 October and co-chaired by Pakistan's Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, and Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed. Pakistan's Special Investment Facilitation Council coordinated proceedings as the task force secretariat, while representatives of relevant Pakistani ministries took part virtually.
GCC free trade deal and meat exports on the agenda
Pakistan pressed for an early signing of the Pakistan–Gulf Cooperation Council free trade agreement, seeking Qatar's support to complete the remaining formalities. Pakistan said it had completed its domestic approval process and forwarded the approved agreement text to the GCC Secretariat on 31 December 2025. Islamabad also raised restrictions on its bone-in meat exports to Qatar and asked for an early resolution, saying a technical dossier covering animal health and food safety requirements had already been submitted to the Qatari authorities.
Agriculture, vehicles and technology discussed
The two sides also discussed a proposed government-to-government arrangement for rice supplies, involving the Trading Corporation of Pakistan and Qatar's Hassad Food, which has been submitted to Pakistan's Federal Cabinet for approval. Pakistan invited Qatari investment in modern agriculture, grain storage, cold storage and farming technology, and the talks covered electric and new-energy vehicles, information technology and digital infrastructure. At the close of the meeting, the two ministers signed the minutes of the task force's first meeting, with the third meeting to be hosted by Pakistan.
