Pakistan Urges Restraint at UN Over Iran Nuclear File

Pakistan has urged restraint and diplomacy at the United Nations as the dispute over Iran's nuclear programme deepens, warning that the situation on the nuclear file has sharply deteriorated. Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan's acting permanent representative to the UN, addressed a Security Council briefing on Iran and nuclear non-proliferation on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
Jadoon urged all sides to exercise restraint and refrain from irresponsible and destabilising rhetoric, actions and postures, and said non-compliance issues must be handled by the International Atomic Energy Agency without politicisation and within its technical mandate. He said a diplomatic settlement had become more critical than ever, and pointed to the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad in June 2026 as proof that diplomacy can deliver.
Verification concern, plainly stated
Pakistan also expressed concern, as reported from the session, that the IAEA cannot currently verify the size, composition and location of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, including more than 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%. That figure is attributed to reporting of the session, not independently verified by DailyByte. Pakistan called on Tehran to restore full cooperation with the IAEA, provide the necessary information and grant inspectors access to relevant facilities.
Jadoon thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt and China for their support for de-escalation, and said Pakistan's leadership continued working towards a peaceful settlement.
