Popovic rings changes for Socceroos November window

Australia coach Tony Popovic has named a new-look 25-man Socceroos squad for the November international window, making eight changes to the group that faced Brazil in September.

The Socceroos are due to play Qatar in Doha on 13 November, before travelling to Amman to face Jordan on 17 November. Football Australia said it would keep assessing the security situation around the Jordan fixture and provide players with updates, after Indonesia recently cancelled a planned friendly in the country.

Three players have earned their first senior call-ups. Central Coast Mariners defender Diesel Herrington joins his younger brother Lucas, the Hull City centre-back, in the squad, while Portsmouth forward Thomas Waddingham and St Pauli midfielder Sam Klein have also been called up for the first time.

The squad has a strong family flavour, with two sets of brothers included. Kusini Yengi returns to join his younger brother Tete, giving Popovic a second sibling pairing alongside the Herringtons. Seven players in total could make their senior debuts during the window.

There are recalls for goalkeepers Joe Gauci and Tom Glover, midfielder Gianni Stensness and forward Daniel Arzani, who has found form with Ferencvaros. Captain Maty Ryan is among the notable omissions, along with Jackson Irvine, Milos Degenek and Aiden O'Neill.

Eleven members of Australia's 2026 World Cup squad remain in the group, including Harry Souttar, Alessandro Circati and Nestory Irankunda. The two friendlies were originally planned as preparation for the Asian Cup, which has been postponed from January to December 2027 because of security concerns in host nation Saudi Arabia.
