Kevin Kelsy scored twice as Rangers beat St Johnstone 4-0 at a rain-swept Ibrox on Saturday, moving to within one point of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic and extending their run to eight wins and a draw from their last nine games in all competitions.

Kelsy opened the scoring in the 29th minute, converting Ryan Naderi's square pass after a move started by Minsu Kim, and Rangers led only 1-0 at half-time despite dominating. Naderi made it 2-0 in the 61st minute and Kelsy struck again five minutes later, before substitute Tochi Chukwuani added a fourth with three minutes remaining. St Johnstone substitute Kai Fotheringham was sent off in the 74th minute after a VAR review of his high challenge on Nico Raskin.

McInnes: as good as we have been in a while

Manager Derek McInnes said: "The conditions were tough. The pitch held up brilliantly. First half we were very good. The only frustration was we took too long to get the first goal and we should be more than a goal to the good at half-time." He added that the first half was "as good as we've been in a while", with the side slowly but surely chalking up wins.

A sickness bug had affected roughly six Rangers players before the match, with six senior players already sidelined through injury. Celtic travel to bottom side Hibernian on Sunday, while Rangers face a midweek trip to Hearts, who are unbeaten at home since April 2025.
