Real Madrid beat Valencia 3-0 to go level with Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe in action for Real Madrid

Real Madrid moved level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona after a comfortable 3-0 win away at struggling Valencia on Saturday 7 November 2026. Federico Valverde, Arda Guler and Kylian Mbappe all scored at Mestalla as the visitors recorded a fourth straight league win. Reuters described the victory as a cruise for Jose Mourinho's side, who are now behind Barcelona only on goal difference.

Captain Valverde broke the deadlock in the 28th minute. The midfielder struck a fierce half-volley from the edge of the box after Mbappe's free-kick had rebounded off the Valencia wall, giving the Valencia goalkeeper no chance. It was the breakthrough Real's dominance had promised, and the visitors did not look back.

Eight minutes later the lead was doubled. Jude Bellingham's cutback from the byline was deflected kindly into the path of Arda Guler, who volleyed in from six yards. The young Turkish attacker has now become a regular source of goals for Madrid, and his finish underlined how much control the visitors had established before half-time.

Valencia, second from bottom of the table and short of confidence, offered little in response. The home side struggled to keep the ball for any length of time and rarely threatened the Real goal, with their best moments coming from set pieces rather than open play.

The result was put beyond doubt 15 minutes from time. Guler turned provider, releasing Mbappe with a pass in behind the Valencia defence, and the French striker rounded the advancing goalkeeper before tapping into an empty net. It was Mbappe's 13th league goal of the campaign, and it capped another ruthless away display from the champions.

Valencia's evening got worse four minutes later when captain Jose Gaya was sent off for a fierce tackle on Mbappe as the striker prepared to run clear on goal. Reduced to ten men, the home side saw out the closing stages without further damage, but the damage to their season had already been done.

The win takes Real to 30 points, level with Barcelona, although the leaders have played one game fewer and can restore their three-point advantage when they face third-placed Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Only goal difference currently keeps Real off the top of the table.

Valencia remain 19th, a point from safety, after a seventh league defeat from 12 games. Their position is now a serious concern, with the gap to safety small but the performances offering little sign of an imminent recovery.

Play was paused nine minutes into the first half so players and fans could pay tribute to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who died after suffering a serious injury during a Spanish second-division match. Both sets of players joined in a minute's applause, and the Mestalla crowd stood to honour the number nine.

For Real, the victory continues a strong run of form and keeps the pressure firmly on Barcelona at the top of La Liga. With the international break now upon them, Mourinho's side head into the pause knowing that the title race is firmly in their hands if they maintain this level.
