Scotland Halloween fireworks: 144 police calls, Bonnyrigg

144 calls on Halloween night
Police Scotland received 144 fireworks-related calls on Halloween night, down from 160 on 31 October last year. Officers said most communities celebrated safely, but a minority of incidents saw fireworks used as projectiles against people, buildings and vehicles. Inquiries are continuing to identify those responsible, and no officers were reported injured during the Halloween operation.
Bonnyrigg, Tranent and Glasgow incidents
Reports included fireworks lit in the street and thrown at members of the public in Glasgow, Tranent in East Lothian and Bonnyrigg in Midlothian. In Bonnyrigg, police said they were called to the High Street at around 7.50pm after reports of fireworks being thrown, but found no trace of the group on arrival. Police asked anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 3094 of 31 October 2026.
Operation Moonbeam runs to 5 November
The incidents fall under Operation Moonbeam, Police Scotland's seasonal operation covering Halloween and Bonfire Night, which runs until the evening of 5 November and lets police call on specially trained officers for violence and disorder. Firework control zones, where setting off fireworks is an offence, are in place in 14 areas of Edinburgh and four in Glasgow until early November, alongside dispersal zones in some places. Seven dispersal orders were issued in Edinburgh, and police said there were no charges for breaches of firework control zones. The force's gold commander thanked the majority of the public for their cooperation and said investigations into the offences would be launched immediately.
