Sri Lanka chase 430 to stun England despite Brook's 202

Sri Lanka trumped Harry Brook's record double century on Thursday, 22 October, with the second-highest successful run chase in one-day international history, beating England by two wickets in the Pakistan tri-series in Rawalpindi. Brook's 202 had propelled England to 429 for four, yet Sri Lanka chased 430 for eight to hand England a second successive defeat in the series.
A record innings in a losing cause
Brook became the first England batter to score 200 in the ODI format, breaking the previous fastest mark set just last month by India's Shubman Gill, and the first batter to score 200 or more in an innings and finish on the losing side. England's total of 429 for four would ordinarily place enormous pressure on any chasing side. Sri Lanka, however, sustained its scoring rate and built decisive partnerships throughout the innings, refusing to let the required rate drift out of reach.
The winning moment
Needing six runs off the final two balls from Josh Tongue, Janith Liyanage lofted the fast bowler over long-off for a winning six, sealing Sri Lanka's most memorable ODI victory since winning the 1996 World Cup, according to the match reporting. The chase of 430 is second only to South Africa's 438 for nine in a one-wicket win over Australia at Johannesburg in 2006. England captain Brook was gracious in defeat, saying Sri Lanka had simply outplayed his side and played exceptional cricket to knock off 400.
