Applications are now open for postgraduate teacher training courses starting in September 2027, the Department for Education has confirmed. Candidates apply through the department's Apply for Teacher Training service, which opened for the new cycle at 9am on 6 October 2026.

Applicants can apply to up to four courses at a time and can submit up to 15 applications in total across the academic year. If an application becomes inactive because a provider has not decided within 30 days, or it is withdrawn or rejected, another application can be submitted in its place.

The final deadline for courses starting by the end of September 2027 is 6pm on 21 September 2027, and training providers must make their decisions by 29 September 2027. For the small number of courses starting by the end of January 2027, providers must decide by 20 January 2027 and applicants must respond to any offers by 24 January 2027.

The department advises candidates to apply as soon as they are ready, because popular courses fill up quickly and places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Some providers close applications early once a course is full, and applicants may need time to complete a subject knowledge enhancement course or meet other conditions before training starts.

Tax-free bursaries and scholarships are available for eligible subjects, and secondary applicants can sign up for a teacher training adviser to help with their application. Full details, including funding and the application deadlines, are on the Get Into Teaching website, and the support team can be reached on 0800 389 2500.
