Ten-Man Wednesday Held 1-1 by Blackpool at Home

Sheffield Wednesday were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool at Hillsborough on Sunday, in a League One match played out in front of their incoming manager. Dave Challinor, confirmed as Henrik Pedersen's successor on the morning of the game, watched from the stands as interim boss Matt Hamshaw took charge for the final time.

Keillor-Dunn strikes first

The home side made a bright start and took the lead in the 25th minute through Davis Keillor-Dunn. The forward seized on a misplaced pass, ran from the centre circle without a challenge, and fired a low shot inside the far post past former Wednesday loanee Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Wednesday looked in control, but the match turned shortly before half-time.

Red card changes the game

Defender Sil Swinkels was shown a straight red card in the 40th minute for bringing down Tom Bloxham as the Blackpool forward threatened to break clear. Reduced to ten men for more than half the match, Wednesday were forced to defend deep, and Blackpool gradually took control of possession and territory as the second half wore on.

Yates denies his old club

The visitors finally made their advantage count in the 81st minute, when substitute Jerry Yates, another former Wednesday loanee, poked home from Albie Morgan's cross. Mason Burstow almost restored Wednesday's lead late on with an audacious chip, but Peacock-Farrell clawed it away. Hamshaw leaves the interim role with two draws from two games, while Challinor's first match in charge will be the FA Cup trip to Oldham next Sunday.
