Nasdaq Rebounds as Wall Street Steadies After Rout

Wall Street ended a turbulent week on a steadier note on Friday, as technology shares recovered part of the ground lost in the previous session's heavy sell-off. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.46% and the S&P 500 gained 0.65%, according to Investing.com, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.26%.
The rebound followed a bruising Thursday in which the Nasdaq fell 5.52% to 24,315, entering correction territory, the S&P 500 dropped 4.36% to 7,353.73, and the Dow lost 1,833 points, or 3.44%, to 51,523.06. The Associated Press reported that Friday's steadier session halted what had been a worldwide slide in shares.
Chip and travel shares lead the recovery
Chipmakers were among the strongest gainers. Advanced Micro Devices rose 11.48% to close at $450.82, and Nvidia, the largest gainer in the Dow, climbed 3.61% to $188.15, Investing.com reported. Airbnb jumped 12.03% to $190.60 after its quarterly results, while NRG Energy added 11.54%.
Not every part of the market joined the recovery. Salesforce fell 3.62% to $214.36, Nike declined 2.46% to $38.59, and Home Depot was down 1.99%. Rising shares outnumbered falling ones on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq.
Fear gauge eases after Thursday spike
The CBOE Volatility Index, often called Wall Street's fear gauge, fell 14.25% to 24.14, easing after its sharp jump on Thursday. Even with Friday's rebound, the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 remained lower for the week, leaving investors watching whether the recovery in artificial intelligence shares can hold into next week.
