Bath and Saracens Claim Prem Rugby Cup Wins

Bath and Saracens both recorded convincing wins in the Prem Rugby Cup on Saturday, with Bath beating Exeter 35-19 away from home and Saracens thrashing Newcastle Red Bulls 54-19.
Bath claimed their first Pool A victory of the competition with the win at Sandy Park, where fly-half Ciaran Donoghue scored 20 points. The result lifted Bath to third in Pool A and left Exeter at the bottom of the group.
Saracens moved top of Pool B after their emphatic victory over Newcastle Red Bulls at StoneX Stadium. The home side ran in eight tries, with Eoghan Clarke scoring twice alongside tries from Tom James, Fraser Rawlins, Nathan Michelow, Andy Onyeama-Christie, Toby Knight and Charlie Bracken. Luke Davidson converted seven of the eight tries.
Newcastle were behind early and never recovered. Scrum-half Tom James opened the scoring after ten minutes, darting from the base of a scrum 30 metres out, and Saracens kept adding to their tally throughout the afternoon. The visitors did manage three tries of their own, through Jake Dalziel, Finn Baker and debutant Kaleem Barreto, with Dalziel converting two, but it was only consolation on a day when Saracens were emphatic and worthy winners.
The two results underline the strength in depth of both clubs at a time when several of their leading players are away on international duty. Bath's win on the road at Exeter was their first in Pool A, while Saracens' eight-try display sent them to the top of Pool B and will give their young side confidence heading into the next round of the competition.
