Fulham 1-1 Newcastle: Muniz Rescues Late Point

Fulham hit back to take a point from a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at Craven Cottage on Saturday, after Jacob Murphy's late strike had looked set to win it for the visitors.
For 79 minutes there was little to separate the sides, and the match appeared to be drifting towards a goalless draw. Then Murphy produced a moment of individual quality, picking up a stray Fulham pass in midfield, driving forward and curling a superb left-footed shot into the far corner in the 80th minute.
It was a goal that seemed good enough to win the game, but Newcastle's lead lasted only three minutes. Substitute Rodrigo Muniz, sent on by Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa in the 65th minute, bundled home an equaliser in the 83rd minute after a scramble in the Newcastle penalty area, and Fulham deserved their point.
Newcastle had earlier seen a first-half goal from Dan Burn controversially disallowed, and the visitors felt they had done enough to take all three points after an improved performance under head coach Matthias Jaissle. Jaissle's side had been much improved on the afternoon but could not hold on once Murphy had put them ahead.
Fulham pushed for a winner in the closing stages, and Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek had to save brilliantly from Ryan Sessegnon's fierce shot in added time as the spoils were shared.
The draw leaves Newcastle still searching for a first win under Jaissle, while Fulham take a point from a match in which both sides had chances to claim all three. Murphy's strike and Muniz's quick reply made for a dramatic finish to an otherwise tight encounter at Craven Cottage.
