Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle: Osula and Barnes strike after the break

Newcastle United beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park on Sunday 25 October, moving up to eighth in the Premier League table after a deserved win. After a war of attrition in the first half, Newcastle tore Palace apart in the 20 minutes after the break and then saw out the win and a clean sheet.
Second-half breakthrough
William Osula opened the scoring in the 47th minute, and Harvey Barnes doubled the lead in the 58th minute, giving Newcastle a cushion they never looked like surrendering. The win was built on a strong second-half display, with head coach Matthias Jaissle getting his tactics right and buoyed by at last having extra options when picking his team and when using substitutes to see out the victory.
What it means
The result completed a busy Sunday in the Premier League's eighth round, in which ten top-flight teams were in action, following two matches on Friday and eight on Saturday. Newcastle's climb to eighth keeps them in touch with the European places, while Palace were left to reflect on a second half in which they were overrun. Sunderland, meanwhile, remain rock bottom after their goalless draw with Leeds, with only one goal scored in four home league matches this season.
