Beier late strike sends Dortmund 1-0 past Frankfurt

Substitute Maximilian Beier scored a late winner as Borussia Dortmund edged Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, moving provisionally to the top of the Bundesliga. Dortmund had dominated from the start, with striker Serhou Guirassy twice denied by Frankfurt goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, while Daniel Svensson's effort struck the crossbar in the 31st minute after deflecting off defender Nnamdi Collins.
Breakthrough in the 80th minute
Frankfurt stayed in the game through goalkeeper Gregor Kobel's saves, including a crucial stop from Fares Chaibi, and Guirassy headed against the crossbar from close range in the 53rd minute. The breakthrough finally came in the 80th minute, when fellow substitute Jobe Bellingham picked out Beier near the edge of the penalty area and the forward curled a powerful effort into the top-right corner.
Top before Bayern's reply
The win lifted Niko Kovac's side to 17 points from seven matches, three clear of Bayern before the champions' Sunday trip to Freiburg, which then took Bayern top on goal difference. Dortmund coach Kovac said his side deserved the win after increasing the pressure in the second half and giving nothing away, while Frankfurt coach Adi Hutter conceded Dortmund deserved the three points on the second-half balance.
