A tanker was struck by two unidentified projectiles about 50 nautical miles north of Qatar’s Madinat ash Shamal on Wednesday 4 November 2026, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Thursday. The incident happened at 23:20 GMT, according to UKMTO warning 196-26.

UKMTO said the status of the crew, the extent of any damage and any environmental impact were unconfirmed at the time of its warning. The tanker was not named, and no details were given about its flag, cargo or destination. No group has claimed responsibility for the strike, and no government has publicly attributed it. UKMTO advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and to report suspicious activity while the authorities investigate.

A separate incident from other Gulf attacks

This incident should not be confused with other recent maritime incidents in the Gulf. In a separate case, Qatar’s Nakilat said on Sunday that its liquefied natural gas carrier Al Mayeda had been hit by unidentified objects while transiting the Gulf on 30 October. No crew members were injured and there was no environmental impact, the company said, and the vessel remained safe and operational while the impact was assessed.

Claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps about tanker fires in the Strait of Hormuz are a different matter again, and are not corroborated by the UKMTO warning about the Qatar incident. The facts reported here are limited to what UKMTO has confirmed: a tanker struck by two projectiles, with the crew’s condition, the damage and any environmental impact still unconfirmed.
